Trek Madone 9 series – Di2 Dura Ace & Enve wheels

Custom build Project One Trek for a long-standing customer

A regular of our shop has long been considering a new carbon road bike to complement his stable. And the arrival of the new aero Madone 9 Series Project One bike in our shop was more than enough to tip him over the edge. If you are ever going to take the plunge, what a plunge! This is a breathtaking beast of a bike in red, white and black with the natural pace and engineering quality to match the looks.

We spent some time speaking to ‘N’ and talking through the details, but really, once he had chosen Dura Ace Di2 and the chassis colours, it was only the wheels that needed closer thought – this is in part to the Madone chassis coming with its own integrated finishing kit. So, ‘N’ was already riding Enve 3.4 clinchers on Chris King hubs and we did slip these in to the frame to take a look, but really they looked too slim; so instead we plumped for a new set of Enve 4.5 clinchers. The outcome is a bike that apes the Trek team bikes but with far more modest (and dare we say classy) graphics … and the custom painters at Trek did us a great favour in painting the little covers on the IsoSpeed decouplers in sparkling pearl white to match the graphics.

When the bike was finished and sat in the shop it caused a real stir amongst both our battle hardened staff and our visiting customers. The bold graphic style, coupled with the fabulous attention to detail that goes into products at the very highest end of road cycling, combines to amazing effect. We would have loved to keep it to show off our ability to build bikes with customers that captures their spirit, our know-how, and the state of the art in the cycling industry: unfortunately it had to go to its rightful home with ‘N’ where he now lashes it around the lanes of Warwickshire just as it deserves!

This bike is from the Trek Project One custom programme – if such a beast interests you, then please get in touch as we can individualise and customise more than just about any shop in the land.
